A WireGuard VPN on Compute Engine with the right firewall rules

  1. Create a VM

    In Compute Engine, create a VM with Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04, and tick Allow HTTP traffic and Allow HTTPS traffic.

  2. Allow WireGuard

    Add a VPC firewall rule for ingress on UDP 51820, targeting the VM's network tag, from 0.0.0.0/0.

  3. Reserve the address

    Promote the VM's ephemeral external IP to a static one, so it survives restarts.

  4. Run the installer

    Click SSH next to the VM in the console and run the installer.

    curl -fsSL https://warpspeedvpn.net/install.sh | sudo bash

  5. Claim your server

    Open the setup link the installer prints, choose a name, and set your password.

Allow HTTP and HTTPS only add the tags that the default rules match, so the UDP rule is always yours to add.
